Light Symposium 2026 – Sensing Light<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Due to numerous requests, the abstract submission deadline has been extended to 13 April 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Light Symposium 2026 will take place from 23\u201325 September 2026 <\/strong>at Aalborg University in Copenhagen, Denmark<\/strong>. Organized by the Lighting Design Lab at Aalborg University<\/a><\/strong>, the symposium continues a strong tradition of interdisciplinary exchange in lighting research and design. Light Symposium 2026 is organized in close collaboration with leading international partners, including KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden)<\/a><\/strong>, University of South-Eastern Norway (Norway)<\/a><\/strong>,Wismar University of Applied Sciences (Germany)<\/a><\/strong>, and Dansk Center for Lys (Denmark)<\/a><\/strong>. These institutions represent strong academic and professional expertise in architectural lighting, engineering, design research, and industry engagement. Their active participation strengthens the symposium\u2019s Nordic\u2013European network <\/strong>and ensures a rich exchange between research, education, and practice across borders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Light Symposium 2026 marks the 12th edition <\/strong>of this established international event. The symposium has rotated among partner institutions in recent years: it was hosted in Wismar (2025)<\/a><\/strong>, USN Kongsberg (2024)<\/a><\/strong>, KTH Stockholm (2023)<\/a><\/strong>, and in AAU Copenhagen (2022)<\/a> <\/strong>– the latter being a particularly successful edition, attracting more than 170 international participants<\/strong>. This continuity reflects a strong and growing international community committed to advancing lighting research, design, and interdisciplinary collaboration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme \u201cSensing Light\u201d <\/strong>of Light Symposium 2026 reflects an expanded understanding of light as more than illumination. Light is approached as a dynamic, measurable, perceptual, biological, and experiential phenomenon that shapes how we inhabit and understand environments. Advances in sensing technologies, data analytics, neuroscience, and adaptive systems now allow researchers and practitioners to explore how light interacts with the human body, cognitive processes, emotions, and behavior. At the same time, artistic and phenomenological approaches continue to deepen our understanding of atmosphere, spatial perception, and meaning. The symposium brings these perspectives together to explore how sensing light – technically and experientially – makes sense in contemporary design and research. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the academic track of peer-reviewed presentations, Light Symposium 2026 will include an industry exhibition <\/strong>where companies can showcase technologies and solutions, as well as dedicated sessions and workshops<\/strong> designed for students and participants to encourage learning, exchange, and collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Who should submit<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    We welcome submissions from early-career researchers, seasoned academics, industry professionals, practitioners, artists, students and multidisciplinary teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Please note that all accepted abstract contributions will be invited for presentation at the conference, with the option for authors to submit a full paper for proceedings publication.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This means that authors of accepted abstracts can choose either to submit a full paper, which will undergo a peer-review process for publication in the conference proceedings, or not to submit a full paper and present their work as an oral or poster presentation at the Light Symposium 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Abstract <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Abstract submission<\/strong> should describe a work that fits one of the following two cases<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Abstract of a\u00a0Full paper<\/strong>: If accepted through a double-blind peer review process, the work will be developed into a full paper at a later stage. The full paper will be presented at the conference and considered for publication in the conference proceedings..<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Abstract of a Conference presentation only<\/strong>: Upon acceptance following double-blind peer review<\/strong>, the work will be presented during the conference but will not be submitted as a full paper or published in the proceedings. This track welcomes case studies, design projects, work-in-progress, reflections, and artistic or creative proposals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
